This is my favorite email of them all so far! I love what you are doing and how you are doing it!
I am a psychiatrist and teach interpersonal exposure to psychiatric residents, therapists, coaches, and other medical professionals, to help them help their clients oversome social anxiety and avoidance. Rejection practice is one of the core methods I teach.
I used to show your TED talk on 100 Days of Rejection to the residents. It is such a great example of rejection practice! I love how you go all IN and how much fun it is, and, of course, what an engaging speaker you are.
I followed your Self-Help playoff bracket series and really enjoyed it.
Today you inspired me... to tell the future vision story vibrantly and reminded me of the artist of life I sometimes know myself to be. A warm and heary thanks for the reminder!
I hope Steven takes you up on your offer. And I'm glad to know of the fun you are having in the meantime.
Warmest regards and all the best in your pursuits,
LEH
PS- I want to share your emails with my kids!!! I'm gonna buy your book 📖. Let's see if it's on Audible. 😃
Re giving up before the breakthrough, do you believe there’s always a breakthrough?
How do we know it’s not just the sunk cost fallacy?
For me, this means questioning whether there really is an audience or if it’s the right time and whether a project is taking so much out of me I should move to a different one.
Answer: There could be a gradual build, there could be a breakthrough, or there could be a total failure.
But the result isnt the point and is never guaranteed. The point is that you need to take the actions over the long haul to make it happen. How to take action over the long-term without burning out? That’s the point of the book.
As a fellow "cooker" and much older than you I can tell you this is a gift most of the time and a curse only when you don't follow through or let setbacks get you down.
